Prima Vitamin D Test
The vitamin D self-test is an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive protein binding that can indicate excessive, sufficient, insufficient or deficient vitamin D in the blood.
The test is for those who tire easily, get little sunlight, or eat foods low in vitamin D, to name a few reasons. The main symptoms of vitamin D deficiency are tiredness, muscle weakness, bone and/or joint pain.
Vitamin D belongs to a group of fat-soluble secosteroids that are responsible for increasing the absorption of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate and zinc in the intestines. The vitamin D level in the blood is considered the best measure of the amount of vitamin D in the body.
Today, vitamin D deficiency is recognised as a global epidemic. This has been linked to several serious diseases such as osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy complications, diabetes, depression and much more. For these reasons, testing vitamin D levels is now considered a “medically necessary screening test”.
